Are You in Doubt About the Issue of Gay Marriage?

Frank Turek speaks at universities, conferences, and churches across the nation on religious and moral issues. In this series he discusses the issue of gay marriage. Frank is a Christian, however, in this series his arguments are just PLAIN COMMON SENSE as he presents the issues.

You will be shocked by the events that have played themselves out. Of the 45 issues listed, nearly all of them have come to pass. Here are just a couple of those goals. Click the link, read them all.
Goal 26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as normal, natural and healthy.
Goal 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

It is evident that either by evolution or creation, the purpose of our sexual equipment, men and women, is procreation. If you deny this you are simply lying to yourself.

Our government makes laws for the benefit of society, laws that restrict behavior that is destructive or harmful to society. Laws are of three types, they can prohibit behavior, permit behavior or promote behavior. Many propose laws that will be harmful to American society, some for their own personal benefit and others because they are enemies and want to see America in ruin.

Traditional marriage, as opposed to unwed relationships, is beneficial to society. It provides a family foundation. It provides children with both a man and a woman as role models, they both bring something different to the relationship. Traditional marriage lowers health costs, the abortion rate, mental disorders, and lowers cases of child abuse.

Same sex marriage and civil unions deny the purpose of our sexual equipment, homosexual unions cannot procreate. Same sex marriage can provide a loving environment for children but cannot provide both role models as in traditional marriage. Government endorsement of Same sex marriage will promote homosexuality.

Homosexuality is harmful to society, it breaks the link between traditional marriage and children. Homosexuals have a greater risk of psychiatric problems (suicide, depression, antisocial behavior, and substance abuse). Homosexuals also have a greater risk of acquiring a communicable sexual disease than heterosexuals.

If special laws are passed for homosexuals, then why not pass similar special laws for incestual marriage, polygamy, pedophilia, bestiality and every other type of unnatural, deviant act that can be thought up?

All of these are good arguments for government laws to promote traditional marriage while prohibiting same sex marriage. There are exceptions to everything but they are just that, exceptions. Exceptional circumstances cannot be used to validate general circumstances.

Let's look at the arguments for gay marriage.

What about "equal rights?" Homosexuals have exactly the same rights as every one else. Marriage laws apply to all of us equally, homosexuals have the right to marry a person of the opposite sex just as all Americans do.

What about "love?" It is a fact that homosexual sex will put the partner at greater risk for psychiatric problems and social disease. Love is about protecting the one you love. If you love an alcoholic, would you give them a drink? If you love a drug abuser, would you encourage them to use drugs? If we love a person, we don't encourage hurtful behavior. People love their mothers, love their dogs, what about that love?

What about "homosexuals are born that way?" How did that genetic trait get passed on from generation to generation? We are born men and women, homosexuality is not genetic, it is a desire. Should we act on every desire we have? If we are born with the desire to gay-bash, should we act on that?

What about "separation of church and state?" Religion is our relationship with God, morality is our relationship with society. US laws regulate morality, not religion (read the first Amendment to the Constitution). Legalizing same sex marriage will impose amoral laws on all of society.

What about "Opposing same sex marriage is like opposing interracial marriage!" Nope, legal interracial marriage is between a man and a woman.

What about "Homosexuals can't change!" Perhaps, however, it is also known that many child molesters cannot change. Should we make new laws to promote that behavior too?

What about "Some animals do it!" A pitiful argument. Some animals also eat their young, are we to judge human behavior by animal behavior?

What about "You ought not judge!" Why not? Isn't that a judgmental statement just like "a man ought not marry a man!" People make judgements all the time and try to avoid those things that they judge to be harmful.

What about "Homosexuality is being singled out!" Not really, Current laws discriminate against incestual marriage, homosexual marriage, polygamy, pedophilia and bestiality among other deviant sexual behaviors.

What about "Some traditional marriages do not produce children!" Ok, but that is an exceptional circumstance. Exceptional circumstances cannot be used to validate general circumstances.

What about "Don't put discrimination in the Constitution!" Too late, it's already there. All laws discriminate, valid laws discriminate against behavior, not persons. Current laws discriminate against incestual marriage, homosexual marriage, polygamy, pedophilia and bestiality among other deviant sexual behaviors.

What about "Marriage is already ruined by divorce!" Ok.. So is Gay Marriage, where it is currently allowed. What is your point? Another exceptional circumstance, exceptional circumstances cannot be used to validate general circumstances.

What about "Opposing same sex marriage is bigotry!" Not at all, nobody is pressing for laws to outlaw homosexuality. Opposition to same sex marriage is about opposing laws that force acceptance of deviant sexual behavior on all of society.

What about "Homosexual couples have been together for years!" Great! I hope they are happy! Others have been together with their parents for years, with their children, with their dog, so what?

What about "You are just a homophobe!" That is simply name-calling, not an argument. Come back when you have something that applies.
